On 8 May 2026Suvendu Adhikari was elected leader of the BJP legislative party in West Bengal. He will take oath as the 9th Chief Minister of West Bengal on 9 May 2026. The BJP won the 2026 state election, ending the Trinamool Congress's 14-year rule. Adhikari defeated Mamata Banerjee in both Bhabanipur and Nandigram constituencies.

Lt Gen NS Raja Subramani Appointed India’s Next Chief of Defence Staff

The Indian government appointed Lieutenant General (retd) NS Raja Subramani as the next Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) on 9 May 2026. He will take charge on 30 May 2026, succeeding General Anil Chauhan. He is a highly decorated Army officer with nearly 39 years of service. He previously served as the Vice Chief of Army Staff and is currently Military Adviser in the National Security Advisory Board (NSAB).
