Mumbai Climate Week 2026 , scheduled from February 17 to 19 , will be India’s first city-led climate platform driven by citizens, with a special focus on the voices, vulnerabilities, and leadership of children and youth.

The initiative is anchored in the understanding that children are among the most climate-vulnerable groups, facing heightened risks to health, education, nutrition, and long-term livelihoods. By positioning climate action as a child rights concern, Mumbai Climate Week aims to integrate equity and inclusion into urban climate governance.

The programme seeks to demonstrate how cities—particularly in the Global South—can act as frontline climate responders by embedding resilience, participation, and accountability within civic systems rather than relying solely on national or global frameworks.

Youth-Centric Partnerships and Participation

The event is being convened by Project Mumbai , with UNICEF India and YuWaah serving as official youth engagement partners. These collaborations aim to ensure that children and young people are not passive stakeholders but active contributors to climate dialogue and solution-building.

Through structured engagement, youth perspectives and lived experiences will feed directly into discussions on urban planning, climate adaptation, and resilience strategies.

Campus Roadshows and Innovation Platforms

In the run-up to the main event, Campus Climate Roadshows will be held across Mumbai colleges from February 9 to 16 , mobilising student participation and climate awareness. A notable feature will be an electronic waste installation aligned with Mission LiFE , highlighting responsible consumption and youth-led approaches to e-waste management.

Another flagship component is the Youth Green Innovation Challenge , a national platform for innovators aged 16 to 24 . The challenge focuses on solutions in food systems, urban resilience, and energy transition, encouraging practical, scalable ideas rooted in local realities.

Bridging Grassroots Ideas and Civic Leadership

Shortlisted innovators will present their solutions during Mumbai Climate Week, engaging directly with policymakers, urban planners, and climate experts. Organisers emphasise that the objective is to move beyond discussion and build sustained pathways for implementation, mentorship, and scale-up.

By creating long-term networks of young climate advocates, Mumbai Climate Week 2026 aims to establish a replicable model for integrating youth participation into city-level climate action across India and other developing urban centres.
