New genus of snake eel finless has been found around the Colachel Coast - Apterichtus kanniyakumari

An Unusual Find below the Arabian Sea.

In a new breakthrough in marine research, scientists of the National Bureau of fish Genetic Resources (NBFGR) in Kochi have discovered a brand new species of finless snake eel off the Colachel coast of the Kanniyakumari district. Recently published in the international collection journal, Zootaxa, the finding contributes to the ever-growing list of marine jewels that are buried under the Arabian Sea. Appreciately, it was rightfully fit to rename the eel Apterichtus kanniyakumari in honour of the cultural and geographical value of the area.

This system was introduced in September 2025. The relocation will help in transparency enhancement, misuse reduction and voter confidence.

UNEP Young Red Tops of the Earth 2025 Announced

UNEP has declared the 2025 Young Champions of the Earth awardees based in India, Kenya, and the US, to promote innovations by the youth in waste management, plastic alternatives, and water reuse.

The Young Champions of the Earth program, created by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in collaboration with climate technology entrepreneur Chris Kemper has concluded winners of the 2025 Young Champions of the Earth program. The 2021 awardees, based in India, Kenya, and the United States are reputationed as innovative groundbreakers who address some of the gravest challenges facing the planet, including plastic pollution and wastewater reuse as well as sustainable materials.
