Overview
English Language Day is celebrated on April 23 each year; this day was selected to celebrate William Shakespeare whose birth and death anniversary are on the same day. It was introduced by the United Nations in 2010 and the day is used to emphasize the relevance of English as a global language of communication. To-day the English language ties in more than 1.5 billion people all over the world, making it possible to interact in the cultural, diplomatic, educational, scientific, and business spheres.
