Australia Bans Neo-Nazi Group National Socialist Network-15 Years Jail for Support

OVERVIEW

Australia banned a neo-Nazi group called the National Socialist Network (NSN) on 15 May 2026. The ban started at midnight. Now, anyone who supports, funds, trains, recruits, joins, or leads this group can go to prison for up to 15 years. The group also used the names White Australia and European Australian Movement. This is the second organisation banned under Australia’s new anti-hate laws. The first was Hizb ut-Tahrir, banned in March 2026. The new law came after a deadly antisemitic attack on a Hanukkah celebration at Bondi Beach in Sydney in December 2025, which killed 15 people.

AUSTRALIA BANS NATIONAL SOCIALIST NETWORK

On  15 May 2026 , Australia officially banned the  National Socialist Network (NSN) . This is a neo-Nazi organisation. The ban took effect at midnight on the same day. Home Affairs Minister  Tony Burke  announced the ban. Under the new anti-hate legislation, any activity linked to the group is now a criminal offence.

WHAT ACTIVITIES ARE NOW ILLEGAL?

The law makes the following actions illegal if they are related to the banned group:

• Supporting the group

• Providing funds

• Giving training

• Recruiting new members

• Being a member

• Directing the group

The maximum punishment for these crimes is  15 years in prison .

GROUP’S ALIASES AND DISBANDMENT CLAIM

The National Socialist Network has also used other names to hide its activities. These include:

• White Australia

• European Australian Movement

Interestingly, the group had announced plans to  disband in January 2026  – before the ban came into force. But the Australian government went ahead with the ban anyway.
